This app (dpt) will test the performance of your dns server and show the results in a handy chart.
It will resolve the ip addresses in random order of the included list of 10,000 domain names inside the domains.txt file.
You can edit this file if you wish to test different domains.
This program is available for Windows, Macintosh and Linux.

great program
I just wanted to say that the program is small, fast, and great. It works perfectly and does exactly what it is supposed to.
Thanks
Result
Hi,
At first, I really like this small test program!
Have some questions:
My result shows 950 timeouts and 8756 successful queries, this means more then 10% failed. but Result says OK. From the changlog I assumed it will show NOT ok. Is this how it is supposed to be?
Is it possible to shitch off the "Result" line?
Is it possble to save the complete test, all values in comma delimited or similar to show as a complete graph over time (start time to end time) are the values just in RAM or in some temp directory to save ?
Thanks,Wolfgang
Timeouts
Timeouts are not unusual as the supplied list of domain names is quite old, some of the sites have gone offline by now. They are only recorded in the "Timeouts" field for your information, they do not affect the other areas of the test or the accuracy of the test results.
At this time there is no way to save the test data, but I will consider including it in a future version.
Thank you for trying the software !
WinXP fail
This app works great for me on MacOSX 10.5 but not on my WinXP SP3 machine (both on the same LAN). The symptoms on the Windows box were that each DNS query took several seconds, during which the application window went to a white blank square, which disappears briefly when the next DNS query started. I let the program run overnight, and only then did the graph of latest query results get updated (showing only a couple data points), and the "Stop" button did not at any point respond to any clicks. I finally had to use Task Manager to kill the app.
Unable to Verify
I have not observed this behavior on any version of Windows from 2000 all the way up to the as yet unreleased Windows 7. This application has been tested on all of these platforms with no issues.
Right at this moment I am running the program on my little 1.6ghz Intel Atom net-book running Windows XP SP3 (With all current updates) and it's performing perfectly.
Perhaps you have another problem with your system ?
DNS Performance test on WinXP
I experienced the same behavior on WinXP as the other poster. Also works fine on my Mac. When I start on XP I immediately see the task svhost with username "NETWORK SERVICE" begin totally consuming the CPU. No points are displayed on the graph and the app is generally unresponsive - very few windows/screen updates, can't click 'stop.' If I am able to look at the 'stats' page, I see that all queries are timing out. No queries successful. I have to kill with task manager. In case it helps, my machine has two NICs. Don't otherwise have any problems related to that so that may be nothing. I'm using a linksys access point. The WinXP box is plugged directly into the AP but the Mac is wireless.
RE: DNS Performance test on WinXP
I will look into the issue in more detail, thank you for reporting it.
