if you have installed Windows onto your mac using bootcamp you may have been surprised to find a new icon on your desktop when you rebooted back into OS X.
It'll probably be named "Untitled" and if you installed Windows with the default NTFS file-system it's read only in OS X, you can't change the name or modify any of the files on the drive.
This icon represents your Windows partition and it'll keep coming back every time you restart your mac. But there's good news, I came across a simple solution while browsing the Internet the other day (I'll update this post to include a link if I find the site again).
Here's how to make the icon disappear from your desktop for good !
(The drive will still be accessible via the Devices Section in the Leopard sidebar if you need it)
If you just want to change the name of the icon instead of hiding it completely, leave off the period.
