Chronicles of Spellborn on Windows 7

This short article details how I managed to get the Chronicles of Spellborn working on windows 7.

Win32.Induc.A / Delphi.Induc

Recently I tried to run a program that I have used many times before and found that MSE reported that it was infected with a virus called Win32.Induc.A / Delphi.Induc. Further Investigation revealed that this is a virus that only harms computers with the Delphi Development Environment (of one version or another) installed on their computer and that lots of legitimate programs have been distributed with this virus accidentally.

Microsoft Security Essentials

As you may or may not be aware, Microsoft has decided to release their own (Free) Anti-virus application. It's called "Microsoft Security Essentials" and it's currently being beta tested.  I have used it and it seems to be a competent entry into the anti-virus market.

Microsoft has recently closed the beta test and they will not allow you to download the application directly from Microsoft.  However, if you download the program from somewhere else and install it, the software will function as described.  Auto updates work and the database updates download just like they are supposed to.

If you are interested in trying the program but have been unable to get it from Microsoft you can still download it from Softpedia (and probably some other sites as well.)

Click here to visit the Softpedia product information page (Where you can download the program).

Click here to run a google search for "Microsoft Security Essentials" (It may yield additional download locations)

Click here to visit Microsoft's Official Website for MSE.

UPDATE: Microsoft has now release the final version of MSE and it can be downloaded from the official website at the link just above.

Known Issues:

I am aware of the following issues with the site at the moment and am working to resolve them.  If you encounter an issue that's not listed here please post a comment to alert me.

  1. Spell Check isn't working

Windows 7 App Crash with Compatibility Mode

When testing windows 7 I noticed that after applying a patch to remove the desktop watermark any program that was configured to use "Compatibility Mode" would crash instantly when I tried to launch it.

I did a google search and it seems the problem is caused by incorrect permissions on the user32.dll file after applying the patch.

I found the following instructions on the web, tried them and it worked !  All credit goes to the original poster "maxwin".  You can see the original post here.

Here are the instructions (With my comments):
